Feasibility Study: June 2006 - September 2006
Heritage funding Solutions, Inc. conducted a Feasibility Study on behalf of the Beaumont Metropolitan YMCA. The YMCA’s Vision is to build a new West End YMCA facility
that will be approximately 29,000 square feet in size located on 17.3 acres of land that has been donated to the YMCA. The cost of this new facility is estimated to be approximately $4.5 million and will
be ideally located on Dishman Road between the Meadows Soccer Complex and the new 600 home subdivision, The Meadows. Based upon the results of
a Winfield Group market study, the new facility will include the following venues that would accommodate the programs that
potential membership indicated would be of greatest interest:
Gymnasium: A full sized multi-purpose gymnasium to accommodate the growing family and teen membership as well
as the expanding basketball and volleyball programs
Child Watch: A child watch area to accommodate the demand for this service providing the space needed to offer
diverse programming to young visitors while their parents participate in adult programs at the facility
Fitness Center:
A state of the art facility with the best equipment to
help fight the epidemic of obesity in the community
Aerobics Rooms: A beginners and women’s work-out room as well as an aerobics studio to provide
fitness classes
Youth Center:
A meeting place for the youth members to do homework,
access the internet with computers, enjoy fellowship with other youth or play games such as pool, foosball or ping pong
Community Meeting Rooms: Two rooms including a conference room and a multi-purpose room for the community
to use for meetings/gatherings
Outdoor Pool: A heated zero entry family pool with a splash water park will be included
Climbing Wall: A 30 foot climbing wall will be installed next to the gym for fitness and fun
In addition to the new West End facility, the YMCA’s vision is to upgrade the
ball fields and incorporate energy saving features at the L.L. Melton facility. This
renovation is estimated to cost $500,000 and will include the reworking of the baseball diamond, soccer field and flag football
field. The dugouts and the fence at the baseball field will be rebuilt and new
lighting will be installed. New fences will also be installed around the border
of the fields.
Additional cost saving features will be included in the L.L. Melton facility project including the addition of a solar
powered hot water heating system for both the facility water and the pool. Solar
powered lighting will be installed in the parking lot to further enhance energy cost savings.
The YMCA’s
goal is to complete these projects in one phase by reaching out to the Beaumont Community to request the donations that will
be required to fully fund the greatly needed new West End facility and the renovations to
the ball fields at the L.L. Melton facility.
