COMMITTED TO BUILD CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

A Strong Community

Our service in the Moneta area began over ten years ago in response to the health and wellness needs of adults and seniors in the area.  Working out of a modest, leased facility, the YMCA has developed and maintained a multitude of programs and services for a strong and dedicated membership of over 250 individuals.  We have collaborations with Centra, the Arthritis Foundation, and Healthways, Inc. to offer a variety of individualized cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, wellness programs, and exercise specifically geared towards seniors and adults who have decreased strength, mobility, and range of motion.

Most recently, the YMCA initiated a massive physical education program in the Staunton River Schools that addresses the growing obesity epidemic among young people and targets over 700 children in the Fit for Life program.  The YMCA is also the largest childcare provider in South Bedford County providing before and afterschool care and summer camps to hundreds of children in Moneta, Huddleston, Body Camp, Goodview, and Stewartsville.

Built on a solid foundation and with strong community support, the YMCA is committed to addressing new and emerging needs and to positioning itself to reach its full potential as the premier provider of human services in South Bedford County.  With your help, our steadfast dedication to continue to build strong kids, strong families, and a strong community through the Moneta Area Family YMCA will become a reality.  Please join us in this special opportunity by supporting the Moneta Area Family YMCA’s “Committed to Build” Capital Campaign.

A New Facility

To adequately accommodate the needs of South Bedford County, the YMCA must establish a new facility.  A site has been donated, centrally located in Moneta on Route 122 in the Mayberry Hills Subdivision.  The features of this new building have been driven by the results of 465 surveys that were conducted during 2006 and 2007 at 9 town hall style meetings.  By providing the following facility, the YMCA will become “the cornerstone” of the community for generations to come.

Family Aquatic Center:  An outdoor six-lane competition / lap pool will accommodate many recreational and class oriented activities, as well as competitive swim team use.  A smaller warm water instructional / therapy pool will be constructed indoors to accommodate the increasing demand for seniors exercise classes such as arthritis / therapy classes and rehabilitation exercise.  Other specialized programs including infant / child swim lessons, low-impact water aerobics and classes for our special needs population will be offered as well.  A family oriented water spray park and slide will be included to make our Family Aquatic Center complete.

Health & Wellness Center:  The new facility will include a state-of-the art health & wellness center to better accommodate the growing demand during peak times of the day.  Members will be able to participate in weight resistance and strength training on a variety of machines and free weights.  Additional equipment and programs will offer the opportunity to participate in cardio, interval, strength and aerobics training.  Others in need of more specialized programs will be able to participate in cardiac, pulmonary and rehabilitation programs.  This important component of the new facility will be especially important to help us continue fighting the epidemic of obesity in our community.

Aerobics Room:  The demand for additional aerobics programs and expanded capacity in existing programs, including seniors programs, will be accommodated by the new aerobics room.  A wide range of classes focusing on strength, endurance, high and low impact aerobics, toning exercise, flexibility, core strength, kick boxing, spin, abdominal, yoga and more will be offered.

Gymnasium:  In order to greatly expand community programs and services, a full sized multi-purpose gymnasium will be included providing ample space for adult sports, community events, child care, summer day camp and physical education programs for Bedford County Schools.

Multi-purpose Rooms:  Two multi-purpose rooms will provide the opportunity for a wide variety of programs for everyone to enjoy.

Child Watch Area:  To accommodate the demand for child care while parents participate in adult programs at the YMCA, a Child Watch Area will be included that provides adequate space to offer diverse programs to young visitors.

Locker Rooms:  Lockers for men and women as well as a set of special needs locker rooms will be included to better accommodate our members and program participants of all ages and abilities.
